Insuring the DFSK Fengon E5 – the plug-in hybrid, fairly rated
The Fengon E5 is the plug-in hybrid SUV of DFSK's Fengon line: electric around town, petrol for the long haul. It usually reaches Germany as an import with individual approval – without German type codes comparison portals bail out, and the hybrid drivetrain doesn't make classification any easier. Routine for us: we insure the E5 at regular conditions, including the eVB number you need to register it.

- Electric drive plus petrol engine – recorded correctly instead of lumped in as an "exotic".

What matters with the Fengon E5
The Fengon E5 usually reaches Germany via an individual approval under Sec. 13 EG-FGV – without German key numbers. Online calculators abort, and whoever does get a quote often pays a blanket surcharge because the insurer can classify neither the model nor the plug-in drivetrain properly.
We rate the E5 by its technical data: power, value, segment – a compact SUV in line with European plug-in competitors. In casco we focus on the modules that matter for a part-time EV: cover for the traction battery including consequential damage (such as overvoltage while charging or rodent bites), charging cables and, if you wish, a new-price or purchase-price clause.
With a plug-in hybrid, correct recording decides a lot: if the E5 is filed as a plain petrol car, you give away possible discounts and risk the high-voltage components not being properly covered in casco. We therefore state the drivetrain explicitly in the application.
The premium otherwise follows no-claims class, regional class, annual mileage and driver circle. If you mostly use the E5 for short trips, set the annual mileage realistically low – that noticeably reduces the premium without narrowing the cover.
