Insuring the Forthing 7 REEV – when the drivetrain overwhelms tariff software
Drive electric, with a petrol engine as generator: the Forthing 7 REEV's range-extender concept is clever – but fits no standard field in German tariff calculators. We classify REEV vehicles correctly and cover the electric components while we're at it.
- REEV
- Range extender: electric drive plus generator – recorded correctly, not miscategorised.
- Battery
- High-voltage components with matching casco cover.
- eVB number
- Once you agree to the quote we issue the eVB number – digitally.
Hybrid? Electric? Getting REEV right
REEV vehicles always drive electrically – the combustion engine only charges the battery. For insurance, the exact drivetrain still matters: it affects classification, possible EV discounts and casco modules. If the Forthing 7 is blanket-recorded as "petrol" or "hybrid", you lose money or cover.
We record the drivetrain precisely, cover the high-voltage tech (battery, charging electronics, cables) in casco and issue the eVB number once you accept the quote. What remains of the special case is just the driving.
Because REEV vehicles are not provided for in any standard input mask, documentation decides the outcome: we record drivetrain, power and vehicle value so the insurer can classify them unambiguously. That is the basis for possible EV discounts and for casco cover that really includes the high-voltage components.
Alongside that, the familiar premium factors apply: no-claims class, regional class, annual mileage, driver circle. The request still stays lean – in the form you name only the model. Everything else is settled once the quote becomes concrete.
